Concrete costs more upfront but lasts longer and needs less maintenance. Asphalt is cheaper, more flexible (better in cold climates), but needs resealing every 3-5 years. In hot climates, asphalt can soften. Choose based on climate and budget.

Gravel driveways take 1-2 days. Asphalt takes 1-2 days (plus 3-7 days curing). Concrete takes 2-4 days (plus 7 days curing before use). Pavers take 3-5 days. Remove and replace adds 1-2 days.

Asphalt can sometimes be overlaid on existing asphalt if structurally sound (saves 30-40%). Concrete cannot be poured over old concrete. Pavers can be installed over stable concrete. Full removal is best for long-term results.
